“Greene King” Restaurant & Pub
Location: Moscow, Russia
Year of development: 2017
Area: 580m2
Founded in 1799, “Greene King” is one of the largest breweries in the UK, with more than 1,900 pubs and restaurants worldwide. In 2015, when launching the first “Greene King” pub in Moscow, our task was to develop its exterior design as well as to finalize the interior.
The design concept behind this custom English pub was to decorate its facade in a classic British style. With that in mind, the objective was to ensure that each piece of the project had the correct color and proportion. The facade was trimmed with decorative panels imitating an aged wood, supplemented with fancy flowerpots. The signage with the logo and brand descriptors was made in an engraved wood style – as it was done at the times of the first English pubs.
Working on the interior of the restaurant itself, that included the design of the second floor and staircase leading to it – we decided to follow the same logics and recreate the atmosphere of the classic English pub. We have decorated the staircase with wooden moulding, covered the walls with English pattern wallpapers and hung vintage paintings and photographs in Victorian style.
Located on the second floor, the banquet hall initially occupied a large area with a rather low ceiling, which caused certain discomfort. We resolved this by using vault ceiling with lighting – avoiding the flattening feeling and at the same time solving the problem of primary lighting. The walls of the hall, as well as the staircase, were finished with wooden panels and tightly hanging paintings. We have divided the banquet hall into two spaces: the main hall with large decorative fireplace follows the seating zone. In the main hall we have located tables for different parties that can be transformed into a large U-shaped table for 80 people, in the case of banquets.
Our studio has also developed the interior of the “heart” of “Greene King” – the cigar lounge, which was completely finished with wooden panels, including its walls and ceiling. . We have located a large dining table for 10 persons in the center of the hall. Along the hall walls we have installed a decorative fireplace and a large cabinet humidor with an opening tabletop. In addition, a small soft seating area with a chess table is arranged in the hall.
As part of the launch of the first “Greene King” Pub in Russia, we have also developed an updated version of its logo and a complete set of brand identity.
